Hannemann’s Administration sued over Hauula Eminent case

Aloha!

Another bully behavior repeated in Hauula eminent domain abuse. Star Advertiser: Landowner sues City over plans for park

Mufi Hannemann will be served a subpoena TODAY to appear in court before Judge Border and Judge Nishimura in August

  • Civil Case:  10-1-0956-05 (PWB) First District Court  Judge Border
  • Civil Case: 10-1-0863-04 (RAN) Judge Rhonda Nishimura

Mufi’s anti-business and a big bully (unless you are his supporter) City is seizing a scarce Hauula commercial lot for the relocation of Hauula Fire Station for $13 million in this economy.  Hauula Fire Station is less than a mile away.

Affected residents did not know about it. He called on his Laie supporters to come tell Hauula what to do. The Pettiion collected by his relative and friend and Mufi for Governor Exploratory Committee Member Junior Ah You did not disclose it was a condemnation of property. Mufi send his city employees Bryan Mick and Ernie Martin to spread misinformation in Neighborhood board. The minutes of the Neighborhood board are manipulated to give a sense of: “the community wants it".

Even the city records showed Junior Ah You's flawed petitions but not all of the Hauula community opposing petitions.  Affected residents deserve due process and public disclosure and not government bullying.

Sincerely,

Marvin Iseke, Hauula Kupuna

Choon James, Hauula property owner

Walden nails “another energy bunco scheme”

Dear Editor,

Once again, Andrew Walden reports accurately on another energy bunco scheme that make it appear pigs can fly. His reportorial style brilliantly captures the pigs at work nature involved, from revealing the risible secretive methodologies and bizarre accounting processes attached to this super battery scam to providing the various euphemistic--and highly Orwellian--faux science terms used to sell this particularly brand of sudsy soap, such as "thermal runaway" as a fancy phrase for fire. The slap and tickle of wind propaganda flatters the gullible, exploits the well intentioned, and nurtures the craven. It is made possible because there's no penalty for lying in the energy marketplace. Faith-based initiatives like wind energy symbolize the imaginative lacuna now at the heart of our national energy policy.

HB444: Gay lobby demonizes and criminalizes opposition

Dear Governor Lingle,

I have followed the path of HB 444 and the similar bills that have been debated on the mainland from the beginning. I have friends and family who are on both sides of the issue. Personally I believe that all persons regardless of their private relationships are entitled to respect, protection and common courtesy under the law. No one should be favored or afforded special protections above another; we should all be treated equally under the law. I do feel that marriage between a man and a woman is a sacred and right institution which gives the family the best foundation to thrive on.

Whatever our personal convictions are on the matter of HB 444, just the legal complexities that arise out of such a bill should give you reason to Veto HB 444.

I have to ask:

  • What are the provisions in HB 444 that clarify child custody matters where two same-sex partners and a third parent of the opposite sex are involved? If anyone can get married or have a civil union and have custody of children, what of situations with bi-sexual partners where three adults may be involved and want rights?
  • How are the rights of the biological parents protected?
  • What provisions are in place for divorce or separation cases, death of the same-sex partner, for distribution of property and patient visitation and survivor’s rights?
  • Will we follow other states with cases where individuals and the courts are going bankrupt paying for break-ups of civil unions and custody battles with third party biological parents, because the law is inadequate?  Will we see the court process so drawn out that the custodial children turn 18 and walk away as adults before a decision?

I am also concerned in a large part because in other states where same sex unions passed it lead to a situation in other areas like education to criminalize open debate on the matter, take away parents rights and demonize citizens because they voice a religious conviction, personal creed or spoke out on the rule of constitutional law that guards against the establishment of special rights for a class beyond what all citizens should equally enjoy.

Hawaii should not make the mistakes of other states. We should not commit our children to such a tangled mess of a future. We have enough to deal with now.

Hawaii’s people can live in peace without laws like HB 444.

Above all else I am deeply concerned at the amount of out-of state lobbying and money that has gone in to the pro HB 444 effort by activist organizations that do not represent the will of the voters in Hawaii, but are pushing the issue from California with threats of legal action and harassment of opponents. I am sure you are aware of these lobbies and I applaud you for standing firm and representing us well all these years.

Governor, rather than allow west coast lawyers to control our State, please let us choose here in Hawaii what is best for Hawaii, please veto HB 444. It is the best decision.

Thank you for your valuable time,

Bill Green

Lunalilo Home Road: Funding for street lights lapsed July 1

Dear Editor,

“When we see fit.” That’s when the street lighting project on Lunalilo Home Road will be finished, according to the mayor’s representative, Gordon Bruce, speaking in response to questions by Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board members at their June 29 meeting.

In September, Mayor Hannemann personally attended a town hall meeting and announced the city would reduce the lighting and install flat lenses up to Wailua Street. Check it out he said, and then let us know what you would like us to do with the rest of the project.

In April, when questions were raised by the board about deadlines, Gerald Hamada of the Department of Design and Construction informed board members and community that “the funds (on Lunalilo Home Road) will not lapse.” We haven’t been able to evaluate the project yet, because it has not been completed to Wailua, and all of a sudden at the June 29 meeting, we were told funds for Wailua to Koamano Street would lapse July 1.

Perhaps Hannemann should change his mantra to “It’s my way or the highway.”

Aloha,

Natalie Iwasa, Hawaii Kai, Oahu
