Abercrombie: Hannemann using religion to divide voters

HONOLULU (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Neil Abercrombie is accusing the campaign of his rival, Mufi Hannemann, of using religion to divide voters and attack his character.

In a statement released Sunday, Abercrombie said he was being impugned by a former website called "Atomic Monkey" and a recent campaign flier that was mailed by an independent group called "Island Values."

The website was and Island Values is run by strong Hannemann supporters.

And who broke that story?  Mufi’s Atomic Monkey Exposed: Website calls Abercrombie a “flailing gasbag”, wife “a witch”

Ken Wong’s name disappears from Mufi campaign site

Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann distanced himself from a flier by a Christian interest group attacking former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, his opponent in the Democratic primary for governor, but his campaign has also taken the unusual step of erasing a key link to the group.

Ken Wong, an attorney listed as the deputy treasurer of Island Values, was also one of the members of Hannemann’s campaign committee and has done outreach for the former mayor among Christians. Wong said in a statement on Friday that he is a Hannemann supporter but has no official role in the Hannemann campaign.

The Hannemann campaign, however, has since removed Wong’s name from its list of campaign committee members on its website.

School valued for inclusive atmosphere

Despite its disappointing test scores and years of struggling to boost student achievement, the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind has fierce champions in the community, including parents who say the school came through for their children when inclusion programs — in their former schools — did not.

(In other words, a failing school is superior to what their children were offered in regular DoE schools.  That pretty much sums up the DoE’s attitude towards special education students.)

SA: Defend Hawaii campaign law

He filed a lawsuit in Honolulu's federal court last month challenging the state's political spending restrictions, most notably the ban on direct donations to political candidates by state and county contractors.

Hawaii's prohibition should not be affected by the high court's opinion, which struck down the federal prohibition of corporate spending independent of candidates as an infringement of First Amendment free speech rights. That case involved a documentary called "Hillary: The Movie," produced by Citizens United, a conservative nonprofit corporation, released during the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries independently from any candidate….

… direct contributions to candidates by government contractors certainly do give rise to corruption, which is why Hawaii prohibits "pay to play" contributions to candidates by government contractors. Courts have ruled for decades that First Amendment rights can be limited by such a "compelling state interest," to which Kennedy inferred.

The need to prevent corruption in government contracts is a perfect fit to that important legal principle.

Hawaii Muslim leader cheers triumphal Ground Zero Mosque, calls conference for September, 2011

Great headline: N.Y. mosque could pursue broader purpose

“With broad-minded leadership and goodwill, the center could perhaps become as prestigious as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the nation's capital.”  (Or for that mater, as prestigious as any of the other mosques built on the destroyed holy sites of other religions.)

The same gaggle of “enlightened, conscious, and progressive” interfaith idiots which cheered Hawaii Islam Day on September 11, 2009 Julian is planning an “one reality” conference to promote submission to Islam in September, 2011.  They haven’t announced the date yet, so lets cut to the chase.  Anyone want to place bets that it won’t be Sunday, September  11, 2011?

Every guerilla or terrorist movement has its “political wing”.  Islamism is no different.  And every era has its herd of useful idiots ready to embrace the political wing of the terrorist movement.

Here is a clue for any liberal arts perfessers, journalists, legislators or other geniuses:  Moderate Muslims do not spend all their time trying to convince weak and decadent infidels such as yourselves that Islam is a religion of peace.  A true moderate Muslim would spend his time (and risk his life) trying to convince other Muslims to live as if Islam were the religion of peace.  There are very few such people on Earth and NONE in Hawaii’s “interfaith” community.

Well offers chance to clear most of meter waiting list

The County Council Water Resources Committee will take up the issue during a meeting beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers. Panel Chairman Mike Victorino said discussion of the matter would be preliminary….

The developers spent $3.75 million for the well, and unlike the Maui Land & Pineapple Co. well just a quarter of a mile away, this one was a gusher….At its maximum output, the well could service about 1,296 meters Upcountry. (Therefore activists are at this moment frantically working on arguments and legal strategies to defeat this.)

Rocky road for Kealanani: With no work started on the subdivision, a bank guarantee is allowed to expire

The Kealanani project has had a rocky history, and construction still hasn't begun.

The most recent battle has been over an $18.4 million bank guarantee that one of Kealanani's former investors set up to ensure completion of subdivision infrastructure.

Canpartners, a California lender that took over the project last year through foreclosure, has been pressuring Kauai County to tap the bank guarantee.

But the county on Tuesday let the guarantee expire, saying it would not have been in the public's Grove Farm’s best interest to use the money (for a competing project).

(A luxury home project which is not part of Grove Farm is running into obstacles on Kauai.  No surprise here.  Not only the eco-protesters, but Kauai Co Government exist to defend Grove Farm’s monopoly on luxury development.)
