HNN: … HPD’s leadership, including Interim Chief Rade Vanic, refused to remove Gerona as the head of the Criminal Investigations Division. The high-profile unit investigates murders, robberies, child abuse, missing persons and sexual assaults, to name a few.
It was only after the department was served with the latest complaint Friday that HPD reassigned him to the Legislative Liaison Office.
The new complaint, filed by another female officer in CID, accuses Gerona of sexual harassment.
While the Legislative Liaison Office has no other officers for him to command, it is still in the main HPD building ― just one floor away from some of the officers who filed complaints.
Critics of the reassignment maintain that Gerona should be on leave, without police powers.
The Honolulu Police Commission said they will be discussing the allegations at their next meeting, scheduled for Oct. 6….

Proposed city district maps will determine voter count for Honolulu City Council seats
SA: … Honolulu’s Reapportionment Commission is weighing three proposed city district maps that determine the count of voters for each of the nine Honolulu City Council seats.
Every 10 years, using U.S. census data, the city commission is tasked with redrawing the Council district lines to address fluctuations in population. Two public hearings on the maps are set for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday through Webex. The plans can be viewed in person at Honolulu Hale or at honolulu.gov/elections….

Victorino Lifts Ban on Spectators at Youth Sports Not Sanctioned by DOE--Ige Doesn’t
MN: … Maui Mayor Michael Victorino has decided to lift the ban on spectators at youth sports events held outdoors, even though all of his requests that were submitted for approval earlier this week to relax current orders, were denied by the governor.
“I believe it is the right thing to do. No offense to the governor. I don’t mean to be disrespectful. I don’t mean to be disobedient,” said Mayor Victorino during an afternoon press briefing on Friday, “but when I read the petition–and I want to thank Aaron Ambricio and his group–because when I read the overall petition, I thought it made sense.”
“You really do sacrifice, you wear your mask, physically distance, because you want to watch and enjoy your children. You understand that the pandemic is not over, and I appreciate that,” said Mayor Victorino. “It’s all these others that are going around saying–no need wear mask, no need vaccination. It’s wrong. We all need to work together, and I’m finding it difficult to come to that common ground. And many officials throughout the world and the United States are finding the same thing.”…

Filipinos' COVID-19 mortality rate prompts boost in demand for vaccine, testing
KITV: … According to data from the state health department, 23% of the patients who died from COVID-19 in Hawaii were residents who identified as Filipino. That's the largest percentage for any ethnicity.
That grim statistic appears to be motivating some people who've been hesitant about the vaccine to go and get their shot, say volunteers with the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu. It's been nearly a year since they launched FilCom Cares, an initiative to provide COVID-19 testing, vaccines, and now boosters in churches and neighborhoods. The volunteers are seeing more people who are worried about the delta variant, but misinformation continues to be a challenge….
FilCom Cares is holding a free vaccine and testing clinic tomorrow at Farrington High School from 9am to 1pm.
Vaccines are also available once a month at the Filipino Community Center. The next one is scheduled on Oct 21 from 9am to 1pm.
Church sites rotate and include West Oahu Christian Church in Waipahu on Oct 1, 22 and 23; Our Lady of Sorrows in Wahiawa on Oct. 9; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ewa Beach on Oct 17.

(CLUE: Both pro- and anti-immigration groups have an incentive to make the illegal alien count seem larger than it really is. If there really are 4,200 DACA dreamers eligible in Hawaii--why did only 405 apply by 2016? Answer: Because there really aren’t as many illegals as is claimed.)
