Message from Hawaii Christian Coalition  November 12, 2013

Homosexuality and the Gay lifestyle, (a behavior) has been legitimized by the State through same-sex marriage. My argument has always been that this is an abnormal lifestyle that produces the aids virus, therefore should never be legitimized much less taught to our children in sex-ed classes. It will also allow discrimination against our Churches and Christian citizens living their faith.

Moreover the Hawaii Constitution has reserved marriage to opposite couples "ONLY." This was ratified by a constitutional amendment that was voted on by the people of Hawaii in 1998 that stated "Shall the Constitution of Hawaii be amended to specify that the legislature shall have the power to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples." Overwhelmingly the people voted by nearly 70% to reserve marriage to opposite sex couples.

The People who came out to give oral testimony in opposition was nearly 90% as opposed to its supporters. Yet the Legislators voted to ignore the voices of the people. Will the People now ignore those legislators in November 2014? We shall wait and see.

The battle now shifts to Judge Sakamoto's courtroom where there is alive a lawsuit put forth by Rep. Bob McDermott and others. So again, we shall wait and see.

So voters of Hawaii, keep vigilant, stay informed, and Remember do not support any Legislators who would dare to teach our children harmful same sex education and undermine the special culture and sense of community that makes Hawaii unique. Hawaii's social system and health care services will become overburdened by the increased costs associated with high risk lifestyles practiced by homosexuals.

Abercrombie Statement:

Gov. Neil Abercrombie's statement after the state Senate voted today to pass SB1 HD1 relating to marriage equality rights:

"In Hawaii, we believe in fairness, justice and human equality.  We embrace the Aloha spirit and respect one another. Today, we celebrate our diversity defining us rather than dividing us.

"I believe this bill provides equal rights for all people, is legally sound, and is in accord with the Hawaii State Constitution.

"I look forward to signing this significant piece of legislation, which provides marriage equity and fully recognizes and protects religious freedoms."

Obama Statement:

Statement by President Barack Obama on the passage of the marriage equality bill in Hawaii:

"I want to congratulate the Hawaii State Legislature on passing legislation in support of marriage equality. With today's vote, Hawaii joins a growing number of states that recognize that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be treated fairly and equally under the law. Whenever freedom and equality are affirmed, our country becomes stronger. By giving loving gay and lesbian couples the right to marry if they choose, Hawaii exemplifies the values we hold dear as a nation. I've always been proud to have been born in Hawaii, and today's vote makes me even prouder. And Michelle and I extend our best wishes to all those in Hawaii whose families will now be given the security and respect they deserve."
