COO DEPARTURE: Kawika Burgess, who has been OHA’s chief operating officer since October 2013, is stepping down from his second-in-command post in administration. His last day running the day-to-day operations in administration is expected to be April 30th.

NEW OHA TENANT: Street Grindz has signed a three-plus-year lease with OHA to occupy the space in Kaka‘ako Makai where the Fisherman’s Wharf building used to stand.  The lease calls for an estimated 12 mobile-food trucks to begin operating daily at the site on April 1. OHA is expected to initially generate $22,750 a month from the lease.

UPDATE: "The information published regarding daily operations on April 1st is incorrect. We currently have no date set, so there will be no food trucks there until further notice." -- Christine Gomez, Street Grindz, March 30, 2015 LINK: OHA News Release

REQUEST FROM HAWAIIANS ON THE CONTINENT: A long-time Native Hawaiian community leader in Sacramento is requesting a meeting with the Board of Trustees. Andy Ah Po wants to ask the board to consider funding programs on the continent that benefit Native Hawaiians. OHA grants are restricted to Native Hawaiians in the state. Ah Po and other Native Hawaiian community leaders on the continent are interested in coming to Hawai‘i to make their case to the BOT. He and his colleagues have assisted efforts in the past to engage Native Hawaiians on the continent in the Kau Inoa initiative as well as other Akaka Bill matters.

HIGH-LEVEL SUPPORT: CEO Kamana‘o Crabbe has asked his directors to make sure that executive assistants accompany them to meetings with Trustees. He said the purpose will be to provide high-level administrative support.

EXECUTIVE TEAM: Chairperson Lindsey has formed an “Executive Team” to help better position the Board of Trustees to make informed strategic decisions. The team’s kuleana will be to review all Action Items that need to be brought to the full board for final decision as well as to help improve coordination and harmony between the BOT and Administration. Among key team members are: Vice Chairperson Dan Ahuna; Board Attorney Robert Klein; Chief-of-Staff Harold Nedd; CEO Kamana‘o Crabbe; and Corp Counsel Ernie Kimoto.
