Keep Hawaii's Sex Education Abstinence Based!

From Hawaii Family Advocates, April 17, 2015

Do you have a child in the public school system?  Do you trust Planned Parenthood with your child's sex education?

The Hawaii Board of Education (BOE) will hear public testimony next week as it considers radical amendments to the State's Sex Education Policy.  (Click here to read the proposed changes)

The proposed changes will:

  • Abandon abstinence based sex education in favor of a "comprehensive" sex education

  • Switch the Department of Education's "Opt In" regulation (that was only adopted last year after a massive public outcry) back to an "Opt Out" policy.  This means that ALL children will be automatically enrolled in sex education unless a parent writes a letter to the school.

If you are concerned, please testify on April 21, 2015 against Planned Parenthood's Sex Education Policy Changes.

  • We are asking all parents of public school students to send an email to the BOE.  Click on this link (Keep Hawaii's Sex Education Abstinence Based!) to send a message directly to the BOE.   If you can, please also consider showing up in person to testify.

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the meeting indicating the following information:

  • Testifier's name with position/title and organization if applicable;
  • The date and time of the meeting which the comments are directed to; and
  • Agenda item reference.

While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the meeting or improperly identified, may be distributed after the meeting.

You can also submit written testimony in the following ways:

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Board of Education website with the minutes of the respective meeting.  This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.

Mahalo for your attention,

Duke Aiona
