Hawaii: Anti-Gun Legislators Attack National Reciprocity

News Release from NRA-ILA, March 6, 2018

On Thursday, March 8th, a number of resolutions and concurrent resolutions will be heard to request the Congressional Delegation of Hawaii to vote against any national reciprocity legislation.  The state Senate Committee on Public Safety, Intergovernmental, and Military Affairs Committee will be hearing Senate Concurrent Resolution 9 and Senate Resolution 7 and the state House Committee on Public Safety will be hearing House Concurrent Resolution 37 and House Resolution 29.  Please contact members of the committees and urge them to OPPOSE these anti-gun resolutions.  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact committee members.

Also, please consider submitting testimony to the committee through the Hawaii Legislature website. In order to submit testimony, you will need to create an account.  For help creating an account and submitting testimony, click here.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 9 and Senate Resolution 7, sponsored by Senator Stanley Chang(D-9), along with House Concurrent Resolution 37 and House Resolution 29, sponsored by Representative Gregg Takayama (D-34), all urge Congress to not enact S. 446, H.R. 38, or any “concealed carry reciprocity” legislation that would require the State of Hawaii to recognize the concealed carry standards of every other state.  The fundamental Right to Keep and Bear Arms should not end at the state line.  National Concealed Carry Reciprocity would ensure that law-abiding citizens do not forfeit their ability to protect themselves as they travel from state to state, and it would also ensure that anti-gun jurisdictions could not harass or persecute travelers for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Regrettably, today March 6th, both Senate Bill 2046 and House Bill 1908 banning various trigger and firearm modifications passed their chambers of origin and will now move to the House and Senate respectively for further consideration.
