‘Kalikimaka Kritters’ picked as theme for 33rd Annual Holiday Wreath Contest

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, Oct 19, 2018

Honolulu – The Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts (MOCA) has selected “Kalikimaka Kritters” as the theme for the city’s 33rd Annual Holiday Wreath Contest.

The public is invited to prepare submissions for the contest, which is held as part of the traditional Honolulu City Lights celebration.

Entries will be accepted in three contest divisions: Adult, open to any individual or group with participants ages 18 and older; Youth, ages 17 or younger; and a Theme Category, for wreaths that depict the “Kalikimaka Kritters” theme.

A ribbon and monetary award will be given to the winners in each division. The first place prize is $150; second place is $100; and third place is $75. The overall Best in Show wreath will receive the Mayor’s Holly Award of $200. In addition, six Judges’ Choice Awards will be presented with monetary prizes of $25 each. Each entrant, individual or group, may win only one award. Judging will be based on workmanship, creativity and use of materials. Wreaths in the theme category will be judged on the incorporation of the theme into the wreath.

Rules and entry forms are available online at www.honolulu.gov/moca, and at Satellite City Halls. Entries will be accepted on Monday, November 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Lane Gallery of Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street. No early or late entries will be accepted. Each entry must include a wreath contest entry form. Winners will be notified by Friday, December 7.

All entries will be on exhibit in the Lane Gallery of Honolulu Hale from December 1 through January 1, 2019.

For more information, please contact Tory Laitila, Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts, at (808) 768-MOCA (6622).
