Hawaii Republican Convention Reelects Ostrov Chair
By Brett Kulbis @ 5:56 PM :: 3688 Views :: Republican Party

Hawaii GOP unites to overwhelmingly reelect Shirlene Ostrov as State Party Chair, accompanied by a new executive leadership team.

News Release from Hawaii Republican Party, May 15, 2019

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Republican Party met Saturday on Maui to conduct its annual State convention and elect party leadership to bring the Hawaii GOP into the 2020 election cycle with new direction and pedigree not seen before.   The convention was well attended with over 200 voting delegates that were steeped in unity of vision and voted decisively, reelecting Shirlene DelaCruz Ostrov to a second two-year term as party chair.   The results not only solidified overwhelming support for Ostrov, but in a refreshing display of cohesiveness, the lopsided win for Ostrov’s hand selected leadership team also ushered in a new day for the Hawaii GOP.

During the past few years and leading up to the 2018 mid-term elections, Ostrov worked tirelessly to thwart repeated attacks and dissention from opposition factions within the party.    As the results from Saturday’s convention confirm, Ostrov’s leadership and the unwavering confidence State delegates demonstrated for her agenda resulted in an unprecedented back to back election win, and placement of an executive leadership team that is united, strong, and will take the GOP’s new day message into the next two years leading up to 2020. Elected alongside her was her handpicked slate:  Vice Chairman of Coordinated Campaigns Al Frenzel, Vice Chairman of Candidate Recruitment and Training Jane Tatibouet, Vice Chairman of Communications Ray L’Heureux, Vice Chairman of Community Service Steve Lipscomb, Vice Chairman of Coalitions Rojo Herrera, Secretary Ka’eo Kealoha-Lindsey, and Treasurer Marilyn Moniz.

Most refreshingly, and perhaps more importantly, Ostrov and her newly elected executive leadership team nullified the sometimes vocal and disruptive opposition and leveled their overt attempts of party takeover into a decisive victory for her and her slate and reduced the opposition’s dissenting message into one of irrelevancy.

Attendees of the convention at the historic Marilyn Monroe House on the grounds of the King Kamehameha Golf Club referred to the event as highly energetic, electrifying, and patriotic.  Attendees further shared how important it is to remain positive and welcome all to join the Hawaii GOP’s shared vision for the future, one of a renewed sense of hope, excitement and the coalescing of one unified party that will deliver much needed change in the political landscape in Hawaii, and provide sound leadership that will give voters in Hawaii a choice other than politics as usual.

A jubilant and empowered Ostrov stated at the end of the conference:  “Delegates from across the islands gathered in Maui, elected a unified slate of strong Conservative leaders and voted overwhelmingly for a change to “politics as usual”. And change is just what the Hawaii Republican Party is going to deliver!”

The Honolulu County Republican Party looks forward to working closely with each of our re-elected and newly elected State leaders - to unify our party, change our political landscape by raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people of Hawaii, preparing for the 2020 State Elections and the 2020 Trump Re-election Campaign. LET'S MAKE HAWAII GREAT!

Keynote speaker Dave Huguenel, Regional Director, Delegates and Party Organization for the Trump 2020 Campaign provided some great insight of what to expect and what will be expected in the months to come as we gear up for President Trump's 2020 Re-election campaign. However, Dave's primary responsibility with the campaign is to ensure State delegates selected to attend the 2020 nominating convention in Charlotte, NC are staunch White House allies — not Never Trump Republicans.

Mahalo to Maui County & State Convention Committee Chair Greg Lussier and the Maui County Republican Party, our hosts, for their gracious hospitality and aloha. The Frank Lloyd Wright designed clubhouse and the absolutely breath taking views may have been the star of the convention. Please also extend our mahalo to the staff at King Kamehameha Golf Course for their outstanding support.

Mahalo to Credentials Chair Celyn Chong Kee and Elections Chair Mark White, and their respective team of volunteers, who's hard work and commitment were instrumental in ensuring the success of our convention.

Mahalo to Convention Chair Andria Tupola, we know it's not easy maintaining control of a room full of independent and vocal conservative Republicans, but you kept us on schedule while ensuring everyone that wanted was recognized and heard.
