Announcing the 2019 Online National Community Survey for O`ahu Residents

Online Survey Period: November 25, 2019 through December 31, 2019

News Release from Honolulu City Auditor, November 25, 2019

The City and County of Honolulu is participating in the 2019 National Community Survey. This year’s survey includes questions about the quality of life, city services, policies and management of the City and County of Honolulu, as well as opinions on issues pertinent to O`ahu residents, such as affordable housing, homelessness, and the effects of climate change. This information is meant to inform city leaders, stakeholders and the public about how they are serving residents, gauge perceptions of Honolulu, and see how the community compares to over 500 cities nationally. The 2019 mail-in survey was sent to a random sample of 1,700 O`ahu residents in early November.

This year, an online version of the survey will be available to O’ahu residents beginning November 25, 2019 through December 31, 2019.

Residents interested in taking the survey can use this link: http://bit.ly/oahuresident19.

Residents who received a survey in the mail, should use the link provided on the printed survey.

The National Community Survey will analyze data collected by this online link separately to maintain the “statistical significance” of the data collected from the 1,700 households. The online survey is for residents over 18 years old who weren’t one of the households selected for the random mail survey. Survey responses are anonymous. The results are tabulated on the mainland and will be reported in group form only.

The National Community Survey (formerly known as the National Citizen Survey) is a collaborative effort by the National Research Center of Boulder, Colorado and the International City/County Management Association, and is standardized to ensure the research methods are directly comparable to over 500 cities and counties nationally. The Office of the City Auditor initiated Honolulu’s survey in 2010, and includes the results in its annual Service Efforts and Accomplishments Report. The purpose of these reports is to strengthen governmental transparency, accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness.

We encourage O`ahu residents to participate in this survey and have your voices heard on important issues facing the City and County of Honolulu.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the City Auditor at: (808) 768-3134 or by email: oca@honolulu.gov
