by Andrew Walden

With no announcement, fanfare, or notice by the media, Big Island Mayor Harry Kim pulled papers to run for reelection, Monday, April 20, 2020.  (Link: Pg 22.)

If he files, Kim will be among as many as 19 candidates for Mayor.

After a series of heart attacks, Kim, 80, had previously expressed uncertainty about his reelection plans.

WHT November 12, 2019 quoted Kim

“I owe it to people who want to run and they should know what I’m going to do as fast as I can,” Kim told Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise members last week. “On the other side, people who want to run because they can do better, I feel that they should run regardless of what I do.”

The deadline to file is Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

Primary Day is Saturday, August 8, 2020

If no mayoral candidate breaks 50%, the top two will run off on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
