Announcement of Republican Candidate Slate 2020

News Release from Hawaii Republican Party, June 3, 2020

Honolulu, Hawaii - In an announcement today at the end of the 2020 candidate filing period, Republican Party Chairman Shirlene DelaCruz Santiago Ostrov and Minority Leader Gene Ward unveiled a new slate of dozens of legislative candidates who will breathe new life into the Hawaii State Capitol with more Republican influence than ever. These highly qualified, diverse and energized candidates are a cohort that will stop the progressive agenda in Hawai’i, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and protect the rights of our voters and ‘ohana.

The Party will have legislative candidates in 33 races. The slate includes 5 candidates in Senate races, and 28 candidates in 31 House races (huh?); our winning lineup has the most legislative candidates the Hawaii Republican Party has had in several election cycles. It includes 20 women, 11 Native Hawaiians, and several candidates who have recently “left the left” and broken free from their longtime membership in the Democrat party to join the Republican agenda.  The party is also fielding candidates in congressional races and key nonpartisan races to include Mayor and City Council seats.

“We are in the process of reclaiming the spirit of Hawaii, in the spirit of Prince Kuhio’s legacy, who was the founder of the Hawaii Republican Party.” said Chairman Ostrov. “This group is here to tell you that it’s not too late for Hawaii. We’re going to change the way things are done in the legislature, and we are going to revitalize Hawaii by passing good, sensible laws, protecting the rights of our citizens and promoting strong conservative values. These candidates will make a difference and turn the Legislature from deep blue to rich purple after decades of the single-party stranglehold of our state.  We will achieve this with vision, hard work and doing what’s right for our ‘ohana. The voters of Hawaii will finally have the opportunity to choose excellence and obtain the representation they deserve with the Republican Party of Hawaii."

“These candidates represent Hawaii,” said Minority Leader Ward. “We are grateful for this outstanding  slate that has been put together largely under the leadership of Vice Chairman of Candidate Recruitment and Training, Lori Ford.  These candidates represent the values, the conservatism, and the wishes of Hawaii voters. This is why this group will lead Hawaii into the future.”

The Republican Party of Hawaii extends its sincere gratitude to Representative Ward for his hard work and dedication, generously mentoring and sharing his experience and insight with the 2020 Republican Candidates.

The Republican wahine running for office in 2020, are one of the most impressive groups of candidates ever to seek office in Hawaii. They embody the vision, the talent, and the heart to put Hawaii back on the path to prosperity.

Hawaii’s primary is August 8, 2020.
