News Release from Hawaii Republican Party January 31, 2021

The Hawai’i Republican Party announced today that Shirlene DelaCruz Ostrov has officially resigned after four years as Chair, effective 31 January 2021.

Ms. Ostrov was a driving force behind the revitalization of the Republican Party in Hawai’i. She said, “I believe the policies of the last four years will stand the test of time. But having won many battles to continue improving America through conservative principles, we are at a crossroads.  Since our 46th President was inaugurated, our party is redefining itself. We have a stark but important choice to make: either we rededicate ourselves to our Constitution and continue to defend and uphold our best American institutions and traditions or we get distracted by conspiracy theories and social media wars.”

The Republican Party of Hawai’i is no stranger to this challenge.  Just last week, Ms. Ostrov chose to accept responsibility for several unauthorized tweets that garnered national and international criticism. The party officer concerned resigned, but Ms. Ostrov thought she should also resign to allow the party to recover from the controversy and focus on finding excellent candidates and fighting for policies that improve the quality of life for Hawaii’s hardworking families.

Over the last four years as Chair, Ms. Ostrov invigorated the Republican brand in Hawai’i. She brought national resources to build better candidates, improved processes for educating and registering voters and increased the number of elected Republican representatives in our state legislature.  Of the party’s many wins, the most valuable was electing a new Republican State Senator in 2018, ending a years-long drought [of dissent] in the Senate. The Republican message is getting through in Hawai’i: the party saw a 60% increase in the number of Republican party members in 2020.

Ms. Ostrov is followed by Boyd Ready, elected First Vice Chair by the Republican Party’s Executive Committee and who is now acting Chair.

In May of 2021, the Party will elect a new Chair and Executive Committee, as was already planned by party rules. Ms. Ostrov remains committed to the Party’s success and will serve on the Executive Committee as Immediate Past Chair and assist in future party efforts to elect even more Republicans to represent and improve the lives of the families of Hawai’i.

Introduction of Acting Chairman

News Release from Hawai’i Republican Party Feb 1, 2021

The Hawai’i Republican Party introduces its Acting Chair, Vice-Chair Boyd Ready, who will be leading the Party through the precinct caucus and convention season.

Boyd Ready has been active in the Republican Party starting in the 1990’s supporting 4 victorious local Republican candidates and the 2X winning Governor Lingle in his home District 47 (North Shore/Koolauloa). He was key to strengthening the Honolulu County Committee beginning with organizing the County Convention in 2011. He served in Executive Committee roles assisting Chairs David Chang, Pat Saiki, Fritz Rohlfing, and
Shirlene Ostrov. He ran for State House himself in 2018 and 2020.

As Acting Chair Ready convenes Executive and State Committees his goals are: 1) to ensure fair and open precinct caucus and district elections; 2) to give every Party leadership candidate an equal chance to get their message to delegates; 3) to support precinct presidents in their work.
