Governor nominates Michael Dahilig to UH Board of Regents
By News Release @ 11:30 PM :: 3508 Views

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle today announced she has nominated Michael A. Dahilig to fill the remaining University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents at-large seat.  His name will be submitted to the Hawai‘i State Senate for its advice and consent.
Dahilig previously served as the student member to the Board of Regents.  He earned his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law and a bachelor’s of science degree in geology and geophysics from the School of Ocean and Earth Science Technology at UH-Mānoa.
Earlier this month, the Governor selected five regents to immediately replace University of Hawai‘i regents who had been serving as holdovers.
The selection to fill the remaining at-large seat was pending a State Supreme Court’s decision on a motion filed by the Governor requesting additional time to secure replacement nominations from the Regent Candidate Advisory Council.  Since the Hawai‘i Supreme Court’s December 4, 2008 order that directed the Governor to select replacements for the six regents held over after their terms expired on June 30, 2008 from the list of qualified candidates presented to her by the Council, two of the remaining three candidates for the second at-large regent withdrew their names from consideration.  The Supreme Court denied the motion, leaving Dahilig as the remaining candidate.
