Ala Moana Satellite City Hall temporarily halts HOLO card service

News release from DTS, July 20, 2022

HONOLULU – Ala Moana Satellite City Hall is temporarily suspending HOLO card service to customers who use the cards to get around O‘ahu on TheBus.

The suspension takes effect Thursday, July 21.

In the meantime, HOLO card service remains available at eight other satellite city halls on O‘ahu. Among them are the three closest in proximity to Ala Moana Satellite City Hall: the Downtown Satellite City Hall; the Kapālama Satellite City Hall; and the Hawai‘i Kai Satellite City Hall.

The other five are: Pearlridge Satellite City Hall; Kapolei Satellite City Hall; Windward City Satellite City Hall; Waiʻanae Satellite City Hall; and Wahiawā Satellite City Hall.

Walk-in service for HOLO cards at satellite city halls is strictly for reloading. Appointments are required for an initial purchase of the HOLO card, which is a more time-consuming and complex transaction at satellite city halls.

Walk-in customers make up the majority of the 5,790 HOLO card transactions processed in the past fiscal year at the Ala Moana Satellite City Hall. The issue is that walk-in customers are requesting HOLO card service that requires an appointment.

“It is necessary to temporarily redirect this service while we adjust operations to more efficiently manage demand for the service at Ala Moana Satellite City Hall,” said Kim Hashiro, director of the city’s Department of Customer Services.

DTS recommends HOLO card users to register their cards

News release from DTS, July 20, 2022

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) announced today that less than a hundred recently-issued HOLO cards have a manufacturer defect. These cards, while currently usable onboard TheBus, cannot be registered online and will be unusable after Friday night, 7/15/2022.

DTS is encouraging all HOLO cardholders to register their HOLO Card at www.holocard.net or by calling 808-768-HOLO (4656) if they haven’t done so already. If your card cannot be registered online, it may be one of the defective cards, and HOLO customer service can assist you in obtaining a replacement.

The HOLO card functions as the main fare payment for TheBus and will be the primary payment method for rail. Registering your HOLO card unlocks the full capabilities of the card including auto-load, protection against theft, transfer of funds from a lost or stolen card to a new card, and linking and managing HOLO cards within your family.

HOLO cards can be registered online at www.holocard.net and clicking on the “Create Your Account” button.

If your HOLO card cannot be registered online, please call 808-768-4656 for assistance.
