City to hold virtual public meetings for new Storm Water Strategic Plan

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, August 9, 2022

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu, Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) will host two (2) virtual meetings to present its draft Storm Water Strategic Plan and solicit public input. The draft plan, meeting information, and other ways to provide input can be found online at bit.ly\stormwaterplanning.

The community meetings will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 6 p.m. and Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 12 p.m. Participants can also access the meetings via phone.

The draft Storm Water Strategic Plan articulates the City’s overarching vision, mission, and long-term goals to guide storm water management and investment on O‘ahu for the next 50 years, details short-term strategies that will begin to address these goals, and highlights opportunities for collaboration with other agencies and organizations. The Plan is the product of technical research, DFM leadership and staff visioning, and extensive public input gathered from a series of community meetings held in 2021.

“This Storm Water Strategic Plan is the first of its kind for our island, but it is only the beginning,” said Dawn Szewczyk, Director and Chief Engineer of DFM. “The plan will be used to guide the development of a Storm Water Master Plan, which would serve as a roadmap that identifies specific projects, plans, and actions needed to addresses storm water infrastructure needs across O‘ahu. The Strategic Plan establishes the overall vision; while the Master Plan identifies the route and actions needed to achieve that vision.”
