Message to Supporters from Hanabusa for Hawaii May 2, 2013

Today, Colleen will make a very important announcement about the future of Hawaii and we wanted you to be the first to know.  Colleen will make it official that she is a candidate for the United States Senate, and we need your help, now more than ever.

Colleen can do the job that Hawaii needs now. She is running because the times call for strong, effective leadership, a proven legislator with private sector and Congressional experience who has established, bipartisan relationships with lawmakers and a proven record in Washington.

Our nation faces many challenges, both at home and abroad, and Colleen brings Aloha and an analytical approach to solving problems for the benefit of the people of Hawaii.

We must remain vigilant as Asia’s ever-changing power structure confronts economic turbulence and shifting demographics while new leaders position their nations for the future. Hawaii will play a leading role as our nation continues to shift its focus to Asia and the Pacific region.

Our economy struggles to recover five years after the worst financial crisis since the great depression and too many Americans are still without jobs. Sequestration and endless budget battles threaten programs that help seniors, students, and those who want nothing more than basic security in difficult times.

Lawmakers in Washington are locked in a bitter stalemate of ideas at a time when we need sensible government spending that protects hard working families, supports our military, and nurtures Hawaii’s economy and unique communities through federal investment.

For more than 30 years Colleen has distinguished herself as an attorney in private practice, as the President of the Hawaii State Senate, and as a member of the U.S.House of Representatives. Her lifetime of service to the people of Hawaii has prepared her to serve in the seat once occupied by our beloved Senator Daniel K. Inouye, and to continue Hawaii’s decades-long history of providing leadership and vision in the U.S. Senate.

Colleen is a bipartisan champion of good ideas who works meticulously to steer federal resources and assistance to Hawaii.

She understands Hawaii’s role as a premier visitor destination, a strategic military outpost in the Pacific, a leader in clean energy development, and the multi-cultural model for a rapidly changing America.

This election will be the first chance the people of Hawaii have to vote for who they wish to succeed Senator Inouye. Join us in saying that Colleen Hanabusa is our choice.

This is not going to be an easy race, and we will need your help and support. In the coming weeks, we will be turning to you, our most valued supporters, to help us through what will be a long and challenging campaign. The stakes are high, but we think it will be worth the effort. We hope you agree.

Mahalo and we look forward to seeing you all on the campaign trail.

Aloha,

Team Hanabusa
