House Republican Caucus announces new leadership for 2015

News Release from House Republican Caucus, December 31, 2014

HONOLULU – Today, the House Republican Caucus announced the election of Rep. Beth Fukumoto Chang as House Minority Leader and Rep. Andria Tupola as House Minority Floor Leader.

"Our caucus worked through a lot of disagreements and differences of opinion in the last few weeks, and that dialogue is important for any organization. I'm glad that we'll be able to start off the year with a caucus that's organized and prepared to be strong advocates for the people of Hawai`i. As the new leader of the House Republican Caucus, I look forward to working to unify our diverse and passionate team, continuing to work through our differences and moving us closer to our goal of creating a true two-party system where every resident of our state has a voice in their state Legislature," said Fukumoto Chang.

“I believe that as you move outside your comfort zone, what was once unknown and frightening becomes your new normal.  I’m always trying to make choices that keep me out of my comfort zone because as long as you’re uncomfortable, it means your growing.  I’m honored that my caucus would trust me as floor leader and know that I will grow and refine my leadership ability.  I’m excited to bring fresh perspective and work hard.  Throughout history, small unified nations have made huge differences in the world.  I’m excited to build unity within our group and know that we can make a positive difference in Hawaii,” said Tupola.

Rep. Beth Fukumoto Chang (31) represents House District 36 which includes Mililani and Mililani Mauka. Fukumoto Chang previously served the Legislature as the House Minority Floor Leader and Director of Research. The Daily Beast, a popular political blog, listed Beth as one of "Nine Women Remaking the Right.Beth was also named as one of the Washington Post's "The Fix's 40 under 40" rising political stars.

Rep. Andria Tupola (34) represents House District 43 which includes Ewa, Kalaeloa, Honokai Hale, Nanakuli, and Maili. Tupola is a newly elected legislator, former Music Professor at Leeward Community College, and PhD student at UH Manoa.
