Work begins to modernize state payroll

From Hawaii Office of Enterprise Technology Services, December 8, 2016

Hawaii state employees will be the first beneficiaries of the 21st Century payroll functionality and efficiencies provided by the Enterprise Payroll and Time & Attendance Modernization project (HawaiiPay), now underway.

On Nov. 18, the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS), in collaboration with the Office of Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), held a project kickoff meeting for state employee stakeholders. More than 150 attendees representing all branches and jurisdictions of state government gathered in the Capitol Auditorium to meet the HawaiiPay team and receive information on project status, timetables, and upcoming activities. HawaiiPay project team members from the state and contractor CherryRoad Technologies Inc. briefed fiscal officers, payroll subject matter experts, and other interested personnel at last month's stakeholders meeting. Click the images above to view the event photo gallery.

The current DAGS central payroll system provides paychecks and deposits to employees across the legislative, judicial and executive branches (including the Department of Education and the University of Hawaii), as well as the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

The scope of the HawaiiPay project includes the modernization of the payroll process followed by time and attendance. The new payroll system will be built on the Oracle PeopleSoft platform the state has been using for the executive branch’s Human Resources Management System, shortening the learning curve. In addition, the new processes and technologies will help address current system performance and payment accuracy.
