Aiona has gubernatorial race to himself as foe vanishes

HONOLULU - With Democratic gubernatorial candidate Neil Abercrombie missing from the state's political scene in recent days, Republican James ''Duke'' Aiona has rushed into the vacuum with several press conferences and a debate challenge.

At his latest news conference Friday, Aiona said voters should take into account Abercrombie's refusal to accept or negotiate on the six debates that Aiona proposed to hold before the Nov. 2 general election.

''Today was the date for our first debate or discussion regarding jobs and the economy,'' the lieutenant governor said.

''I have yet to get a response from (Abercrombie). As such, here we are. I guess you could say it's in absentia.''

Abercrombie leaves isles for five days and counting

Abercrombie's last public campaign event was Monday. An Abercrombie spokeswoman says he has been taking personal time away from Oahu (and away from the isles?).

(Health issues?  Don’t expect any Hawaii media to ask.)

Duke Aiona accepts two debate invitations, says Abercrombie is stonewalling

Candidate for governor, Duke Aiona, said, "I've laid it out to Neil. He has yet to respond to this. We should have had something done today. I don't know what he's waiting for. I've said that he's ducking. He's definitely ducking at this point in time because he hasn't responded at all."

Aiona said he has tentatively accepted two debates….

Democrat Party officials dispute Iraq War Veteran's candidate eligibility

Two downtown Honolulu voters (who just happen to be operatives of the gay-atheist controlled Oahu Democratic Party) are suing to disqualify (Iraq War veteran) David S.Y. Chang, the Republican candidate for the state House's 28th District, from the upcoming general election.  (Notice what they leave out?)

REALITY: Rep Karl Rhoads, Oahu Co Democrats try to knock Iraq War Vet off HD 28 ballot

“The Hawaii State Office of Elections has clearly ruled that I am a qualified candidate. I have lived in the district since I returned from active duty service in the army. It was a privilege to serve my country as a military officer during the Iraq War. I risked my life to guarantee our democratic principles and freedoms, including the right to run for office. It is disheartening that this right is being attacked by my opponent’s partisan supporters.”

HUD flags local-hire laws: Housing officials back Lingle's position, but one measure already excludes federal work

(Best spin award goes to) A union official who pushed for passage of the bills characterized Lingle's latest challenge as a last-ditch attempt to thwart the intent of the Legislature.  (Uhh...actually the challenge is coming from the Obama Administration, but hey if you can get a newspaper to print this drivel as if it were a serious argument, maybe somebody will buy it.)

"For them to suddenly (Lingle predicted this back in 2009) have this problem makes you wonder whether caution has turned to obstructionism, and we believe they've crossed that line," said Nathaniel Kinney, director of business development for District Council 50 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. (Who is now trying to obstruct the Obama Administration.)

Oahu's Muslim Community puts shoes to infidel children

(Here’s a quote we have adjusted in order to make it truthful) “Islam Day was initially created (by lying about the foundation date of our own religion) to bridge the gap and to have all the people get together (on September 11, Julian), Muslim and non-Muslim, so it's very joyous to see people leaving all the nonsense and controversies (such as any mention of September 11 Julian), getting together, eating good, food, kids playing together, exactly what it's supposed to be, (infidels celebrating Islam on September 11, Julian)” said Hakim Ouansafi, with the Muslim Association of Hawaii.

(BTW did you know that throwing shoes is a major insult in the Arab world?  That’s just a coincidence, of course.)

Public financing of Big Island campaigns helps incumbents

With one exception, in Kau Brittany Smart, the agent of the previous incumbent Bob Jacobson is winning because of the $37,500 giveaway.  This law was designed specifically to give her that money in order to return the seat to a candidate controlled by the Kau Preservation Inc group led by convicted drug dealer and two-time convicted felon Ralph Palikapu Dedman who is beloved by OHA because his doper protests were instrumental in transferring 22,000 plus acres of Puna to OHA control.)

A Decade of Dispute: Molokai Veterans Go to Federal Court, sue Tavares

BY RICK HAMADA – Molokai war veterans, who have waited nearly a decade to build a clubhouse, have filed a lawsuit in federal court against Maui County and Mayor Charmaine Tavares, citing unjust delays in the permitting process.

“This saga ought not happen to anyone especially veterans,” said Vietnam veteran and Commander Larry Helm, president of the nonprofit group, Molokai Veterans Caring for Veterans. “Government needs to be more proficient and efficient…  They ought to be there to help expedite the process, not obstruct.”

Homeless murder self-defense ruling baffles victim's sister

Prosecutors dismissed the case after determining Wright acted in self-defense, said Prosecutor's Office spokesman Jim Fulton.

Wright had recently filed two complaints against the victim, Earl Grant III, bolstering his defense, said a source who disclosed the information on condition of anonymity.

Grant died Wednesday night after he was stabbed in the chest during a dispute at Kalakaua and Kapahulu avenues.

Without naming Wright, police said that at about 9:50 p.m. he pointed out three men to a security officer and said they had attacked him. The security officer chased one man, later identified as Grant, who collapsed to the ground. Grant was taken to the hospital, where he died of a stab wound to his heart, authorities said.

Police said they recovered the weapon.

Utah egg farm sued slavery contractor on behalf of workers, meanwhile Hawaii eco-farms say ‘not our problem’

Chang and others were told they each would have to pay an upfront "recruitment fee" of $24,000. They figured that, even after paying it, they could still make a big profit during the three years of promised work.

To pay the fee, they had to mortgage their families' rice farms, plus the property of other relatives. "Private lenders," essentially loan sharks, provided part of the financing at annual interest rates of up to 800 percent.

If they lost their jobs in America, their families would forfeit their farms.

Eventually, an egg farm in Utah filed a lawsuit against Global Horizons and named 59 Thais as "interpleaders."  (Wow, all the farms in Hawaii did is say it’s not our problem.  What a contrast.)

The Thais were included in a financial settlement. While details are sealed, Thais said they were all able to keep their homes -- so they apparently were paid enough to cover their loans.
