ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS LEADERSHIP HIJACKS WILL OF MEMBERS

From FreeHawaii.Blogspot.com January 22, 2015

Please Forward This To Every Hawaiian And Our Supporters.

The Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs (AHCC) Board of Directors, headed by recently elected AHCC president and US federal recognition proponent Annell Amaral has announced they are forming a partnership with both the Council For Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) and the Sovereign Council Of The Hawaiian Home Lands Assembly (SCHHA) to further the process of turning Kanaka Maoli into a US Indian tribe. AHCC leadership has voted to commit AHCC funding to further this process.   You may view their entire announcement here - http://TinyURL.com/AHCCOutrage

This is an outrage for for two reasons -

First, no one in the Hawaiian Civic Club membership was consulted ahead of time.

Second, during the recent AHCC convention, a resolution was passed by Hawaiian Civic Club delegates from the convention floor recognizing the Hawaiian Kingdom as still existing.

If you are a Hawaiian Civic Club member, we encourage you to ask these questions -

Who authorized the AHCC BOD to form this partnership?

Were you consulted in this move ahead of time?

Did you participate in this decision?

Who does the AHCC BOD actually represent other than themselves?

Why would the AHCC BOD so blatantly disregard the voice of Hawaiian Civic Club members who have already clearly spoken on the continued existence of the Hawaiian Kingdom?

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VOICE YOUR OUTRAGE AT THEIR PLAN TODAY.

Tell them they don't speak for you either as a Hawaiian Civic Club member, Hawaiian Homesteader, Hawaiian Kingdom National or Kanaka Maoli.

Tell them this is a contradiction of what Hawaiian Civic Club members have already decided.

Tell them you are outraged at a few making decisions for everyone and are opposed to their blatant disregard the will of the people.

ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS FORMS HISTORIC PARTNERSHIP WITH NATIVE HAWAIIAN ORGANIZATIONS TO BUILD A NATION

News Release

Honolulu, HI - On January 17, 2015, the 122nd anniversary of the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani, the Board of Directors of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs (AHCC) voted to approve a nation-building partnership with the Sovereign Councils of the Hawaiian Home Lands Assembly (SCHHA) and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA). The partners plan to start with educating communities on constitutions in advance of a delegate election and constitutional convention.

AHCC President, Annelle Amaral, responded to the action taken by the board: “I’m proud of this decision we’ve made. The Hawaiian Civic Clubs have been long-standing supporters and advocates for self- determination for our people, but this decision marks a proactive commitment by our Association to take charge of this kuleana to ensure our community is prepared to engage in nation-building. We’ll stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our new partners, and any others committed to this important work.”

Kamaki Kanahele, SCHHA Chairman, and Michelle Kauhane, CNHA President & CEO, were present at the meeting to discuss the goals and objectives of the partnership. Kanahele shared the history and work he’s done with the SCHHA and said, “Let’s give this one last chance, all of us together, we have a chance to be a powerful voice,” referring to building a Native Hawaiian government. He extended his hand in partnership suggesting a new relationship be formed among three of the largest member organizations of Native Hawaiians with years of experience, knowledge in civic processes, convening deliberative bodies, and the capacity to deliver on nation building.

“This is historical. It is truly a historical moment for all of us,” shared Jalna Keala, AHCC Government Relations Committee Chair, immediately following the vote.

“Know that Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole is proud,” shared Toni Lee, a past president of the AHCC and current Membership Development Committee Chair. “You may rest well knowing that he is smiling down on all of us,” she added. Prince Kuhio is credited with launching the Hawaiian Civic Club movement in 1918, during his tenure as a delegate to the U.S. Congress.

“It is an honor for me to be working with so many Native Hawaiian leaders who have been at this work for decades,” said Michelle Kauhane. “This is one of the most important initiatives of our lifetime and I am encouraged by the meaningful collaboration that is happening to stand up a Native Hawaiian government,” Kauhane added. Kauhane was also recently appointed as the chair of the AHCC Native Rights committee.

"Immediately following the approval of the motion to enter into a formal partnership with SCHHA and CNHA, the Board of Directors of the AHCC also agreed to fund an apportionment study by Mr. Dwight Hanohano of Relevant Data, for the purpose of creating appropriate voting districts, from which the delegate count can be determined and the election can be conducted. Indeed, this is a significant first step towards building our Native Hawaiian Government," added Annelle Amaral, President of the AHCC.

The Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs (AHCC) is a recognized advocate of the Native Hawaiian community since the movement’s founding by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole in 1918. There are 67 individual clubs located throughout Hawaii and the United States and its members work ardently to help elevate and promote social, economic, civic, and intellectual status of Native Hawaiians. Visit www.aohcc.org for more information.

The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) is a national network of Native Hawaiian Organizations with a mission to enhance the cultural, economic, political, and community development of Native Hawaiians. CNHA is a member-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a strong voice on public policy. The Council operates a certified loan fund, delivers capacity building services, fosters leadership development and has convened the Annual Native Hawaiian Convention for 13 consecutive years.

The Sovereign Councils of the Hawaiian Home Lands Assembly (SCHHA) is a statewide organization of 28 Homestead Associations which represent over 30,000 beneficiaries on Hawaiian Home Lands. Founded in 1987, the SCHHA protects and promotes the interests of beneficiaries of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, enacted by Congress in 1920 that established a land trust for homesteading and commerce for native Hawaiians.
