Latest State Tax Data Is Now Available

2015 Edition of Facts and Figures: How Does Your State Compare?

News Release from The Tax Foundation

Washington, DC (Mar 10, 2015)—Just in time for tax season, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation has released the 2015 edition of Facts & Figures: How Does Your State Compare? Used daily by countless reporters and legislators, this freely available book is a one-stop data resource for state tax rates, collections, burdens, and more! It is available for download as a free PDF or Excel file, and print copies will be available for purchase soon.

The ease-of-access and transparency of government data is crucial to an informed and honest debate on how to improve federal and state tax codes. Unfortunately, this data is often poorly formatted, spread out across many agencies’ websites, or is simply difficult to find. Facts & Figures is just one of the Tax Foundation’s resources that helps alleviate this problem, by providing clear and concise state data in a variety of formats to best fit each user’s needs.

The book contains the rates and rankings of each state on 39 different measures of tax and fiscal policy, including topics such as:

  • State Business Tax Climate Index and State-Local Tax Burdens rankings;
  • Individual and corporate income taxes;
  • Sales, excise, and property taxes;
  • State revenue, debt, and population data;
  • Federal aid to states;
  • And much more!

Since 1937, the Tax Foundation has produced and distributed information on government finances at the federal, state, and local levels.  In 1941, the first edition of Facts & Figures made its debut with the goal of presenting “concise and accurate data” to help “meet the challenge presented by the broad problems of public finance.” Over seventy years later, the goal is the same.
