Djou: Caldwell badly damaged and we are just getting started

Mahalo! On to November!

Message to Supporters,     August 14, 2016

There are no words to describe just how remarkable an achievement we managed to pull off last night.  In just 68 days, we managed to hold the incumbent mayor to an effective draw after being outspent 5-to-1 with the entire City machinery against us.  Against all odds, we are going on to the General Election in an environment where Caldwell has been badly damaged and we are just getting started.

Stacey and I want to convey our sincere thanks to each and every one of you for all of your hard work and effort over the last 68 days.  Last night we took an important step toward rebuilding trust in our City government. Now, as we look forward to the general election, we are excited that momentum is on our side.  We are building a coalition of Democrats, Republicans and Independents in this non-partisan race.  With a much broader November electorate, our diverse team will be favored.  The mayor spent much of his war chest just trying to hold us off, and we now move to the general election on a more even footing.

Even more important, it is our duty to communicate our message that Kirk Caldwell has led our community down a destructive path and we deserve better.  We don't have to accept the incompetence and mismanagement that has become our City government under Caldwell; we don't have to put up with eviscerated ethics and lack of personal integrity that defines Caldwell.

Instead, let's work together to find constructive solutions.  Let's build a mass transit system we can afford, address homelessness and restore ethics at City Hall.  Let's win this together in November.

Aloha,

Charles Djou
