“Your Voice!” – Discover the Public's Power in the Legislative Process!

Big Island, Kauai, and Maui Workshops

From LRB PAR, October, 2016

Pick up tips and tools to help you add your voice to Hawaii's lawmaking process at the Public Access Room (PAR)'s free workshop, offered at numerous locations on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island this fall.

The workshop/presentation “Your Voice!” is about an hour in length, and covers the Legislature and how to effectively participate in the legislative process. In addition, this year the neighbor island workshops will be combined with an open “office hour” for residents who may want to drop in to ask questions, pick up materials, or delve more deeply into specific areas.

Topics covered by the workshop include:

Tips and techniques on effective lobbying, testimony, and communicating with Senators and Representatives
Understanding the legislative process, deadlines, and power dynamics
Easy to use tools available on the Legislature’s website
Helpful handouts, guides, and resources

The flexible nature of the workshop provides a useful start for newcomers, as well as new information and inspiration for veterans of the legislative process. While participants are encouraged to register for the free workshops, drop-ins are always welcome. To register, get additional information, or to schedule additional or advanced workshops during these annual visits, call 808/587-0478 or email par@capitol.hawaii.gov.

Taking place on Tuesday, November 1st, at 5:15 pm at Room 325 in the Capitol Building, the workshop "Add Your Voice" can help you put your patriotism, love of Hawaii and skills to work. Virginia Beck, Coordinator for the Public Access Room at the Capitol Building, will show you how to process, support or oppose bills going through the Legislature.

The presentation begins at 5:30 pm. We ask that you arrive for registration, refreshments and mingling around 5:15 pm. Pre-registration is required. Please RSVP Michelle at 593-7679 or michellefoyt@gmail.com

People can park all around the Capitol Building starting at 4:30 pm without having to pay. This includes the underground parking garage with the entrance on Beretania the block before the Capitol Building.
