DJOU FILES FOR HAWAII SPECIAL CONGRESSIONAL ELECTION

Honolulu City Councilmember Charles K. Djou officially filed nomination papers earlier today with the Hawaii Office of Elections to run for the special election to fill the 1st Congressional seat vacated by Rep. Neil Abercrombie.

Djou said: “This truly is an opportunity for us in Hawaii to make a difference.  Scott Brown showed us that one man and one set of voters in one state can change the course of a nation.  Let's not let this opportunity pass us by.  If you believe as I do, that Congress is taking our nation in the wrong direction, that more wasteful spending is not the answer, then vote for the candidate, who has a proven record for standing up against tax increases and government waste.”

“In these tough economic times, we all have to make hard decisions about how we spend our money.  We forego the things that we may not need, so that we don’t incur debt that we can’t repay.  My plan to stimulate the economy at its essence involves placing our trust in the American people, not government, by reducing the marginal tax rate and the capital gains tax, encouraging small businesses to grow the economy.”

Djou currently serves as a member of the Honolulu City Council and previously was the Republican Floor Leader in the Hawaii State House.  Djou serves as an Army JAG officer in the reserves.  Ballots for the special election are expected to be mailed out to all registered voters on April 30th.

We've been hard at work for many months now, but officially filed our papers earlier today to run for the special election to fill the 1st Congressional seat vacated by Rep. Neil Abercrombie.  Below is a photo of my being sworn in.  Standing beside me is my wife, Stacey, my youngest daughter, who turned three today, and some of my campaign supporters:

The Office of Elections has set May 22nd as the date of the special election and has determined that the election will be an all mail-in special election.  Ballots will be mailed to every registered voter in the district on Friday, April 30.  The deadline to register to vote is April 22.  If you are not registered, click here to download the form.  Please remember to look for your ballot in the mail and return it to the Office of Elections as soon as possible, but no later than May 22nd.  If you can also tell your friends and family about the election and the mail-in voting process, which has never been done before in Hawaii for a congressional seat, that would be great.

Other good news, thanks to your financial support, we are able to start our media campaign today.  Click here for a sneak peek of our commercial.

We have an exciting (and very short) seven weeks ahead of us.  It'll go by in the blink of an eye, so if you can, please consider helping in any way you can.

Mahalo nui loa!

P.S. In case you missed it, the Wall Street Journal did a great story on our race today.
