Transportation planning meeting will focus on Central Oahu

News Release from Oahu MPO

November 20, 2016…Honolulu, HI…. The Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization (OahuMPO) announces the initiation of a Central Oahu Transportation Study to assess the needs of all forms of transportation in Central Oahu, including private and public vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. OahuMPO will serve as manager for this study, which is funded through the agency’s Overall Work Program.

The first community meeting to present existing conditions and solicit input from residents and stakeholders will be held Wednesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Mililani High School Cafeteria.

State Representative Ryan Yamane of Central Oahu chairs the Policy Board of OahuMPO and is urging all interested parties to attend.  “This is a dynamic and critical time as the transportation landscape of Hawaii is rapidly changing.  We have a nearby rail component being added; while, at the same time, we are being made more aware of the needs of alternative transportation modes like bicycling and walking.  Everyone who drives, rides, bikes and walks in the Central Oahu area should attend this meeting.”

According to Yamane, the goal of the study is to develop multi-modal strategies and system improvements that are technically feasible, financially realistic, sustainable, and that meet regional transportation needs.

The meeting will be interactive, inviting the public’s participation at display stations, and will include a brief presentation. Representatives from the Department of Planning and Permitting, the Department of Transportation Services, TheBus, VanPool services, HART, Walk Wise Hawaii, OahuMPO, and the consulting team will be present to listen to input and answer questions.

Date:  Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Time:  7:30 p.m.

Place:  Mililani High School Cafeteria  Light refreshments will be served.
