Molester’s former employer Sen. Roz Baker Blocking Flag Pole Bill: Veterans to return medals

UPDATE: Video of hearing>>>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUlxabeRSNA

What do Sen Roz Baker and Rep Rida Cabanilla have in common?  They both have employed convicted child molester Leon Rouse.

Rouse is currently on the taxpayer’s payroll as Cabanilla’s Legislative Office Manager—a position he has held at least since January, 2009.

Baker hired Rouse as a Senate Committee aide in 2006 after Rouse’s first term as Cabanilla’s office manager ended with public scandal.

Baker provided a recommendation for Rouse to get a job with Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2004 when Rouse returned to Hawaii after 9 years in a Philippine prison.

Baker signed a 2004 letter threatening to impost the TAT tax on NCL in retaliation for NCL’s decision to fire Rouse for sexually harassing his male coworkers.

Because Cabanilla and Baker have been able to get away with employing a child molester, they believe that they can get away with blocking the flag pole bill—or in the case of Baker, blocking a hospital to be built in her own district.

To vote on the bill, 30% of Senators must vote to pull HB2311 out of Baker’s committee and bring it to the floor for a vote.

Veterans to Give Up Awards As last effort to Save Flag Bill

HONOLULU – In response to Senator Roz Baker's (South and West Maui) decision not to schedule a public hearing for House Bill 2311, veterans from across the state, will be delivering their military decorations ribbons and awards that honor their valor and service to the country out of protest to her tomorrow.

Veterans will present the ribbons to Chair Baker and her Committee members of the Commerce and Consumer Protection (CPN) on Wednesday, March 24 in room 229 at 10 a.m.  Sen. Baker, who sponsored the clothesline bill last year, has chosen to pass an unenforceable resolution about the flag instead.

Veterans will present awards for outstanding service, meritorious commendations, and overseas service.  They believe that giving up these awards to Sen. Baker shows how important this bill is to them.

Once they give up these original awards they achieved throughout their lives of service to their country, they cannot get them back.

"We fought for our country and risked our lives for the freedom of these legislators and all we want is to fly or flag and for them to hear our bill, H.B. 2311, and they won't even do that," said Capt. Littell.

In 2009, Sen. Baker expressed in her committee report why she was willing to pass a bill that overruled association rules in order to allow clotheslines.  She stated that the bill was necessary to prohibit housing association rules which are "imposing conditions on the use of clotheslines that are so onerous as to render the clotheslines ineffective."
