UPDATE ON HB444 (Civil Unions) From Hawaii Family Forum

Many of you have been following the stories in both the Advertiser and the Star Bulletin about recent attempts by proponents of civil unions to force the legislature to vote on HB444. As we told you in our last e-blast, HB444 is not dead.

Although it remains uncertain as to whether or not the State House will decide to vote on the bill, what remains clear is that legislators do need to hear from you. The advocates for the bill have not stopped pushing for the final passage of the bill and we expect that the heat on the House members will intensify in the final weeks of session just as it did in the Senate at the close of last year’s session.

We are asking each of you to do three things:

  1. Contact your own Representative and encourage him or her to stand fast on HB444. Thank them for their efforts. If you have the time, go and visit them personally at the state capitol and bring omiyage. Stay positive in your messages and remember that you represent Christ in all that you say and do. If you do not know who your legislator is, click here.
  2. Contact the offices of House Speaker Calvin Say (808-586-6100) and Vice Leader Magaoay (808-586-6380). Let them know that you appreciate their commitment to end the debate and remain focused on the economic issues at hand.
  3. Pray for your elected officials and then ask your friends and family to do the same.

IMPACT 2010

With the 2009-2010 winding down, there is a undeniable realization that many of the issues we faced this past two sessions will surely surface again next year. Advocates for Civil Unions and Same Sex Marriage have vowed to an even more vigorous efforts to have their measure passed.

While the body of Christ rose up during the past two years to keep Civil Unions at bay, it is difficult and financially challenging to sustain these efforts. The real difference need to be made at the ballot box, where elected officials must see the impact of a united body of Christ.
