HART Cancels Audit: "It's not my intent to figure out what we did wrong”

HNN: …the HART board canceled a $250,000 special audit that would have taken a closer look at past cost-overruns.

Board member (and Caldwell operative) Ember Shinn, a former city official said HART needs the money for other things, especially since there are other outside reviews being conducted.

"It's not my intent to muck around in the past and try to figure out what we did wrong in the past. It's more trying to get forward,” she said.

“What I like about the (American Public Transportation Association's)  peer review and the (Project Management Oversight Contractor) reports is that it primarily talks about management and process as opposed to we made a screwy, stupid decision back then,” she added.

Critics say that attitude is why the project is in trouble today….

Roth said some board members just don’t want the public to hear the bad news.

Roth noted that at one point the HART board met secretly behind closed doors to discuss the requirements of the state’s sunshine laws, which is also known as the state's open meetings law.

"There's an alarming lack of transparency at HART. It's worse than a lack of transparency. A lot of what they are making available is pure propaganda,” said Roth….

Outrageous - Rail Audit Cancelled!

From Grassroot Institute, June 23, 2017

It's outrageous!

The Honolulu Rail Project has ballooned in cost from $3 billion to $10 billion and the price tag is rising.

Now, this week, the rail board cancelled a special audit designed to show taxpayers why the costs have ballooned so high.

Hawaii citizens deserve to know how their money is being spent.

That’s why Grassroot has started a petition to audit the rail.

In only one short week, thousands of people have signed our petition to investigate the Honolulu rail project for waste, fraud and abuse.

And this week, Grassroot staff took those voices to Congress at a hearing of the Rail Subcommittee of the Committee on Transportation. We told them that Hawaii citizens demand a true independent audit into the project.

But we’re not done yet -- we’re just getting started.

Please sign the petition! If you have already signed, send this message to your friends.

You can sign the petition now at:

Together, we can hold our government accountable.
