SB: Civil-unions bill revived in Hawaii

ADV: Lawmaker tries to bring civil unions bill up for a vote today

House Bill 444 cleared the Senate but was stalled in the House at the beginning of the year. This afternoon, Democratic leader Rep. Blake Oshiro offered a motion to recall the measure which would grant all the benefits and privileges of marriage to couples in a civil union.

The action caused House Speaker Calvin Say to immediately call for a recess and both Republicans and Democrats retreated to closed-door caucuses.

News Release from Hawaii Family Forum

HB 444 CIVIL UNIONS BILL -- House May Take Vote on Thursday, April 29, 2010

We are hearing that a motion will be made tomorrow (THURSDAY) to take HB444 “off the table” and then take a vote to pass it!

Tomorrow, (THURSDAY) is the final day of session and it is the last day for action on HB 444. All it takes is one person to make a motion and a second. We have no assurance that the motion will be defeated.

If you have not done so, please take a moment from your day to do the following: (and then encourage your friends and family to do the same!)

  1. PRAY UNCEASINGLY: Please lift up in prayer our legislators, especially the leaders.

  2. CALL OR E-MAIL YOUR LEGISLATORS AND ASK THEM NOT TO TAKE IT OFF THE TABLE AND END THIS CHALLENGING SESSION ON A SOUR NOTE. (Click here to take action if you have not done so already!)

  3. SIT IN ON THE HOUSE SESSION AT 10:00 AM TOMORROW (THURSDAY.) (Please note that this is a time change from our last notice). Wear white and your iVOTE button.
