Djou momentum continues to build:  New poll shows Djou with significant lead as voting begins

News Release from

As voters begin casting their ballots in the special election for the 1st Congressional District open seat, a new poll shows Charles Djou has opened a lead as his message of fiscal responsibility and government accountability resonates with voters throughout the district.

“As my wife and I walk the district, we are constantly reminded why I entered this race many months ago; because Washington DC is broken and I want to help Hawaii families keep more of their hard- earned money,” said Djou.  “I’m humbled by the support we continue to receive and today’s poll validates what we have thought all along; our message of fiscal responsibility resonates with Hawaii voters.  But, I also know its the voters' judgment that ultimately counts, not any poll.”

The Honolulu Advertiser released a poll today showing the three-way race continues to be competitive as ballots begin arriving in mail boxes.  Charles’ message of lower taxes and job creation is clearly cutting through the negative campaigns based on false claims and outright lies being run by Mainland Democrats supporting his opponents.

  • Charles Djou          36%

  • Ed Case                28%

  • Colleen Hanabusa  22%

“Our supporters are energized as we enter the voting portion of the campaign and we will continue working hard through Election Day because the voters deserve a member of Congress who actually lives in the district and will stand up to the special interests,”  said Djou.  “We know this race is going to be close and this poll shows the momentum we feel on the ground as we talk with voters across the district.”

The last public poll done for this race by a local newspaper was conducted January 8-10th by the Honolulu Star Bulletin.  Since that poll, Djou has increased his ballot share by 19 points, while Case has dropped 9 points and Hanabusa fell 3 points, clearly showing momentum is on the Djou campaign’s side.

Congressional Candidate Charles Djou cast his ballot in the Special Election for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional district today.

“Today 316,000 people received their ballot in the mail and I joined them in casting my ballot, becoming the only major candidate in the race to do so.  It is important for the voters to know when deciding who their next representative should be that Ed Case and Colleen Hanabusa do not live in the district and cannot vote.“ Djou stated.

A group of supporters, his two daughters, and his wife Stacey joined Charles today at his campaign HQ as he filled out and mailed his ballot.  Click here to view a video of his remarks and he and Stacey filling out and sending in their ballots.

Ballots for the Special Election must be received, not post marked, by the Office of Elections by May 22.
