COVID Count: 23 new cases out of 2,056 tests

News Release from Hawaii DoH, July 8, 2020

On 7/8/2020, the Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 23 new positive cases. One case is on Hawai‘i Island, 2 cases are on Maui, and 20 cases are on O‘ahu, for a cumulative total of 1,094 cases statewide (reported since 2/28/2020).

A total of 89,152 individuals have been tested in the state. (2,056 tests)

§Includes cases that meet isolation release criteria (Isolation should be maintained until at least 3 days (72 hours) after resolution of fever and myalgia without the use of antipyretics OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset, whichever is longer). (The cases that have died and one case that has left the jurisdiction have been removed from these counts).

Positive cases include presumptive and confirmed cases, and Hawaii residents and non-residents; data are preliminary and subject to change. Note that CDC provides case counts according to states of residence.

23 New Cases of COVID-19 Reported

Twenty-three (23) new cases of COVID-19 were reported by DOH Wednesday. Twenty (20) of those cases are on Oahu, one (1) on Hawai‘i Island, and two (2) on Maui. Community outreach and testing activities continue.

2,685 Passengers Arrive on Tuesday

Yesterday a total of 2,685 people arrived in Hawai‘i including 721 visitors and 815 returning residents. There was a total of 24 arriving flights. This table shows the number of people who arrived by air from out of state yesterday but does not show interisland travel.

Committees to Discuss Preventing COVID-19 in Nursing Facilities, Caregiver Homes

The House Committee on Health and the House Committee on Human Services and Homelessness will hold an informational briefing Thursday to evaluate if nursing facilities and caregiver homes are preventing the spread of COVID-19 effectively, in light of the community’s reopening. The committees will ask what the facilities and homes needs are, how are those needs being met, and if they’re prepared. Speakers will include top leaders from DOH, the Premier Medical Group, and Healthcare Association of Hawaii. The hearing will be televised live on ‘Olelo channel 53 and will be aired via tape delay on the neighbor islands.
