Department of Health:

25 New Cases of COVID-19

21 new coronavirus cases on O‘ahu and four (4) on Maui are being investigated by DOH. 21 of the cases are adults and four (4) are pediatric. Two (2) of the cases on Maui are associated with a history of out-of-state travel. DOH is also investigating small clusters of cases associated with out-of-state workers, who were exempt from mandatory quarantine as critical infrastructure workers. There has been no spread beyond this cluster, as all involved workers were not interacting with the broader community as part of the exemption and are now in quarantine.

Department of the Attorney General:

California Couple Arrested for Quarantine Violation

This morning, Special Agents from the AG’s Investigative Division arrested 46-year-old Daniel George Kanaan and 48-year-old Lira Kanaan, both of Walnut Creek, California. The pair was arrested for violation of the State’s mandatory 14-day quarantine rule.

Residents of Waimanalo began reporting their activities to the group, Hawai‘i Quarantine Kapu Breakers, which in turn informed the investigations division. Residents were said to be angered by their “brazen,” actions, including swimming in the ocean every day since their arrival on O‘ahu on July 7. The suspects’ bail was set at $2,000 each, which they posted, and were then released.
