DJOU’S FIRST DISTRICT JOB FAIR DRAWS OVER 600 ATTENDEES, 50 EMPLOYERS

Honolulu, HI — Congressman Charles K. Djou (HI-01) hosted the 2010 First Congressional District Job Fair today at Dole Cannery, which connected at least 600 unemployed or underemployed individuals with over 50 local employers.

“A lot of politicians talk about the economy and jobs, I decided to actually do something about it with this job fair.  Hawaii residents understand that doing is always better than talking.

“We are going through economic turmoil around the country and here at home in Hawai‘i. This is the toughest recession in 25 years and no small business or working family has emerged unscathed. Residents of Hawai‘i rightly expect their elected officials to make it their highest priority to get people back to work, and this economy moving again.

“Since my election to Congress, I have been a vocal advocate for lowering the tax burden on entrepreneurs, working families and small businesses. I have pushed for policies that will stem the tide of this economic uncertainty and create jobs. I will continue to do so.

“These are difficult economic times, and working families and small businesses are struggling around the country and around our islands. Everywhere I go, I hear about the need for jobs. With over 50 local employers representing every sector and industry who are looking to hire in attendance, this job fair was an opportunity for both employers and prospective employees to connect and hopefully help our community take steps back toward prosperity.”
