Mizuno, Inouye Order Mobilization of Gun Control Activists (Aug 23)

HR Aug 23, 2012: Rep. Mizuno called this special meeting with the Board of Gandhi International Institute for Peace, law officials and community leaders to discuss preventing violence in our community.

In attendance were about 10 community "peace and non-violence" activist. The lead activist was Raj Kumar, Ph.D., President Gandhi International Institute for Peace.

The purpose of the meeting was designed to get a core group together to start a "grassroots campaign" to convince state lawmakers and the public to enact new gun laws and restrictions and/or ban.

The meeting was a short notice meeting called because U.S. Senator Dan Inouye talked with State Rep. Mizuno on Monday and told him to start the campaign. Apparently Senator Inouye wants quick action to take advantage of current gun discussions in the press.

The activist that participated were... I'll be blunt... scary lunatics. They were discussing how homeless were criminals, poor people were criminals and worst of all our veterans and active duty military were all psychopathic murderers and needed to be deprogrammed and reeducated. State Rep. Mizuno went right along with the activist….

They did discuss meeting again on 5 September at the state capitol....

Rep. John Mizuno calls story on gun control false, demands correction and apology

News Release from Rep John Mizuno

State Representative John Mizuno, Chair of the House Human Services Committee and a Democrat representing Kalihi Valley announced that he is seeking a public apology from the editor of the Hawaii Reporter concerning a news story which was printed online on Thursday, August 23, 2012.

According to Rep. Mizuno, the news story erroneously states: "The purpose of the meeting was designed to get a core group together to start a 'grassroots campaign' to convince state lawmakers and the public to enact new gun laws and restrictions and/or ban. The meeting was a short notice meeting called because U.S. Senator Dan Inouye talked with State Rep. Mizuno on Monday and told him to start the campaign. Apparently Senator Inouye wants quick action to take advantage of current gun discussions in the press."

"The information provided in the Hawaii Reporter was completely false and misleading, as was the story by James Macey," said Rep. Mizuno. "I am extremely upset that this person was allowed to get such a blatantly false story in the Hawaii Reporter. I have worked with many reporters in Hawaii and have much respect for them. However, this story, which was recently brought to my attention in the Hawaii Reporter, was so fabricated and filled with lies that I am asking for a public apology from the Hawaii Reporter. I ask that they print this Press Release in their news section, (and that the state Attorney General's Office look into these false allegations for possible criminal charges).* I will also submit this press release and contact Senator Inouye to explain the situation."

*Question: Has Mizuno ever heard of the First Amendment? Does he know the difference between civil and criminal law? According to HR, Mizuno verbally retracted his call for a criminal investigation.

Sept 5 10AM: INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING TO REVIEW AND SEEK IMPROVED POLICY ON VIOLENCE IN HAWAII

Gun Rights Dominate Hearing On Non-Violence

CB Sept 6, 2012: Mizuno presided over Wednesday's hearing, which was billed as an informational session on how to improve policies relating to violence in Hawaii. Nearly two dozen people showed up, many of them from peace activist groups.

“This is not going to focus on Second Amendment rights,” Mizuno said after calling the meeting to order.

But much of what was said in the next two hours had a lot to do with gun ownership rights — specifically, the importance of keeping them.

Mizuno reiterated his support for Second Amendment rights throughout the hearing and took every opportunity to remind people that he had not teamed up with Inouye to work against gun owners.

Mizuno even asked one of those testifying, Roger Kumar from the Gandhi International Institute for Peace, to confirm that he had not mentioned Inouye during a meeting two weeks ago that the article was centered on.

“Did you ever hear me talk about U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye [at the meeting two weeks ago]?" Mizuno asked. "You were at the meeting from beginning to end.”

“That was totally false information,” Kumar replied.

Mizuno then reiterated his desire to partner with the Hawaii Rifle Association, which had two representatives at the hearing.

Some of those at the hearing were confused about the emphasis placed on the rifle association.

“I thought the moderator [Rep. Mizuno] was too much reaching out to the HRA,” said Robert Stiver, a retired civil servant. (And anti-Israel activist.) “Why single them out again and again?”
