Hospital Waitlist Survey -- December 31, 2012

The Healthcare Association of Hawaii has released its quarterly survey of long term care waitlists statewide.

These are the highlights:

  • Queens: 54 patients waiting for long term care beds
  • Maui Memorial: 41 patients waiting for long term care beds
  • Kuakini Hospital: 20 patients waiting for long term care beds
  • Statewide: 195 patients waiting for long term care beds on December 31, 2012

Apparently Hawaii hospitals have an excess of acute care beds and a shortage of long term care beds.  While these patients wait, they occupy acute care beds.

Question: Is Medicare billed at the higher acute care rates?
