July 31, 2013 would have been Milton Friedman’s 101st birthday.

To honor his vision and the impact he has had on our society, the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice has teamed up with Grassroot Institute of Hawaii to honor his memory and advocate for greater school choice for our keiki.

In the six years since the first Friedman Legacy Day, a wide variety of events have been held to celebrate Milton Friedman and his enduring ideas. Our dinner welcomes local community leaders and educate attendees on the life, legacy, and ideas of Milton Friedman with a focus on education reform and school choice.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Joe Trippi – heralded on the cover of The New Republic as the man who “reinvented campaigning” – is widely recognized as one of America’s leading and most influential political strategists. Born in California, Trippi began his political career working on Edward M. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1980. His work in presidential politics continued with the campaigns of Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, Richard Gephardt, Howard Dean and, most recently, John Edwards. Trippi has run and consulted on numerous presidential, senate, congressional, gubernatorial and mayoral races.

Joe Trippi

Joe Trippi has been profiled in The New York Times, The New Republic, Fast Company, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and The New York Times Magazine. He is a CBS News political analyst and former Harvard University Fellow. Trippi is the author of “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised: Democracy, the Internet and the Overthrow of Everything,” the story of how his revolutionary use of the Internet combined with an impassioned, contagious desire to overturn politics-as-usual grew into a national grassroots movement – and changed the face of American politics forever.

ABOUT MILTON FRIEDMAN:

Milton Friedman (1912-2006) was an American Nobel Laureate economist and public intellectual who did much of his work at the University of Chicago. He is best known as a scholar and advocate of the idea of the free market. Friedman was instrumental in the elimination of the military draft in the United States, and formed a foundation with his wife to make high-quality education available to all children. Friedman, who won the Nobel Prize “for his achievements in the fields of consumption analysis, monetary history and theory and for his demonstration of the complexity of stabilization policy, and was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal, famously said: “One of the reasons why I’m in favor of less government, is because when you have more government, industrialists take it over.” Friedman’s work influenced policies of many countries, including Estonia, Chile, Iceland, China, and of course, the United States.
