GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION ROBOTICS IN HAWAII

International Botball Tournament Calls Hawaii Home for Second Time

HONOLULU – The Global Conference on Educational Robotics will be hosted in Hawaii and will include the International Botball Tournament from July 18-22, 2012. More than 56 middle and high school aged robotics students from all over the world, including Austria, New England, and Qatar will gather this week at the Hawaii Convention Center for the four-day learning opportunity. Hawaii first hosted the annual event in 2007.

“We are so honored to be hosting the 2012 GCER as Hawaii is a great place to come together from all across the world to engage in robotics education and learn from each other to continue the efforts worldwide,” said Jimmy Miller, the Hawaii Botball Coordinator.

Steve Goodgame, Executive Director, KIPR (KISS Institute for Practical Robotics) added, “Hawaii’s aloha spirit is unprecedented and takes the GCER to a whole new level. We all feel so welcomed and are looking forward to another great event this year.”

The International Botball Tournament includes online documentation, onsite presentations, seeding rounds, double elimination rounds and alliance matches. Any team that competes in a regional tournament regardless of how they finish is encouraged to participate in the International Botball Tournament.

This year’s game is titled Go High or Go Low. In this game, teams are challenged to create a robot that can locate target areas by flying over, scaling, or tunneling under a high obstacle, leaving a trail of the robot’s movements by depositing poms and ping pong balls.

The International Botball Tournament seeding rounds, double elimination rounds and alliance matches, Robot Showcase and Awards Ceremony are free and open to the public.

Joining the more than 56 internationally recognized teams, the following Hawaii teams will also compete:

·       Nanakuli High School (12-0026)

·       Highlands Intermediate School (12-0425)

·       Hanalani Schools (12-0052)
