Sause Bros. Announces Construction Now Underway on New Barge for Hawaii Service--Modernizing Fleet That Services Hawaii/Mainland Shipping Route

News Release from www.Sause.com (Honolulu, Hawaii), December 19, 2012
Sause Bros. announced that construction of the new barge Columbia began this past March at Gunderson Marine, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. The new barge is being specially designed and built to service the Hawaii market and will be larger, more efficient than its predecessor the Nestucca. The Columbia will be launched this spring after being outfitted at Southern Oregon Marine, Inc. in Coos Bay and will be operational in the fall of 2013.
“The Columbia will join our latest barge Kamakani,” said Jeff Browning, General Manager for Columbia River Service of Sause Bros. “With two modern barges, we will now be able to provide sailings twice a month between the Northwest and Hawaii.”
In addition to the Columbia, Sause Bros. is also in the process of rebuilding its tug fleet. The new additions and improvements will make the company’s fleet the most modern and fuel-conscious choice for shipments between Hawaii and the mainland.
“These state-of-the-art, energy-efficient vessels will provide savings that will be passed along to our customers in the form of faster shipments and economical pricing,” shared Browning. “Sause Bros. will also continue to modernize by adding new technology and larger equipment to our Hawaii service. Furthermore, our inland terminal on the Columbia River in Rainier, Oregon has the ability to accept cargo via rail, road or waterway. Combined with our improved fleet, we are able to provide our customers with closer, more efficient ocean shipping service.”
Sause Bros. provides a common carrier service from Rainier, Oregon to its Hawaii terminal in Kapolei.
Sause Bros. provides a full range of services: from ocean towing, cargo handling, and ship assist, to marine construction and repair. We're dedicated to providing the highest quality of service, with certifications in both the International Safety Management Code and the American Waterways Operators Responsible Carrier Program. Whether it's lumber, plywood, paper, petroleum products, chemicals, bulk commodities, containers, oversized, overweight, or specialty cargoes, we have the people, the equipment, and the expertise to meet our customers’ needs.
