HGEA BOSSES ON GET TAX RAISES: “OUR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY”

From www.GOPHawaii.com

HONOLULU— The Hawaii Government Employee Agency, the biggest public union in Hawaii, released their list of endorsed candidates this week.  Two glaring omissions were Speaker Calvin Say and Senator Donna Mercado Kim, two of the most entrenched, union-supported Democrat legislators in office today.

"Union bosses are showing their true colors in these tough economic times,” said Chairman Jonah Ka’auwai.  “They have refused requests by union members to reduce union fees during the recession and are even making examples of Speaker Say and Senator Mercado Kim because of their resistance to raising the GET tax on the people of Hawaii.

“Speaker Say and Senator Mercado Kim are no friends to Hawaii's families and small businesses.  Over the years they have supported fiscally irresponsible legislation that has driven up taxes and fees and expanded government.

“But the arrogance of union bosses has never been more evident than it is with these withheld endorsements. The message HGEA union bosses have given to hard-working union members, to legislators and to the people of Hawaii is ‘It’s our way or the highway.’

“While HGEA President Randy Perriera enjoys a nearly $100,000 annual salary and the job of playing political favorites, HGEA rank and file members are on monthly furlough.  Are the union bosses really representing its people or their own self interest?  A vote for candidates with the HGEA endorsements is a vote for special interests in government.”
