Washington – House Republican Leader John Boehner pledged his support today to secure an assignment on the important House Appropriations Committee for Rep. Charles Djou.

“Charles Djou has my full support for a seat on the House Appropriations Committee,” said House Republican Leader John Boehner. “Charles would fight to curb government spending while working to ensure the Pacific Fleet, defense installations, and military personnel in Hawaii have the resources they need to help keep America secure. I look forward to working with him, the Republican leadership, and the Members of the Steering Committee to place him on the House Appropriations Committee at the earliest possible opportunity.”

With a seat on the Appropriations Committee, Charles Djou will be able to reform a broken earmark system from within and will be a forceful advocate for Hawaii's interests and American national security interests. Djou, a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, represents the First Congressional District, which is home to the U.S. Pacific Command, the U.S. Army Pacific, the U.S. Pacific Fleet, the U.S. Pacific Air Force, Pearl Harbor, Camp H.M. Smith, Fort Shafter and Tripler Army Medical Center. Ensuring that these bases and military installations have adequate funding is in the best interest of Hawaii and the United States.

Djou for Hawaii October 12, 2010

From www.Djou.com

Honolulu, HI - Congressman Charles Djou (HI-1) issued the following statement after Republican Leader John Boehner committed to fully supporting Djou for a seat on the powerful Appropriations Committee:

"The Appropriations Committee, one of the most powerful committees in Congress, is a mess. This year, Congress failed to pass any of the 12 annual appropriations bills. Without appropriations bills, Congress was forced to adopt a continuing resolution to keep the federal government going. We can do better. We must do better.

"As a member of the Budget Committee, I supported a balanced budget amendment and the moratorium on earmarks. I believe that we need to reform the earmark process and the way that the Congress spends the People's money.

"As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I look forward to working with Senator Inouye, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, to reform the earmark process and ensure that our priorities receive adequate funding."
