OLDEST DOCUMENTED HOUSE IN HAWAI‘I OFFERS PUBLIC RARE OPPORTUNITY

Mission Houses Museum’s February Workshop Allows For Hands-On Curatorial Experience

HONOLULU, HI – Elizabeth Nosek, Senior Curator at Mission Houses Museum, will lead a special workshop sharing simple tips and techniques anyone can use to care for items in their home.  The museum will reveal the techniques it uses to preserve and protect objects in the 1821 Mission House, the oldest documented house in Hawai‘i.  Participants in the Spring Cleaning Workshop will look at the historic recipes for home cleaning taken right out of the pages of nineteenth-century advice books, as well as some modern solutions curators use today to preserve family heirlooms, from metals to furniture and textiles.

“This is a great opportunity to not only learn these methods, but also gain hands-on experience using museum objects under professional supervision”, says Ms. Nosek.

The Spring Cleaning Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at the Mission Houses Museum.  Program is $15 per participant.  Lunch and materials are included.  RSVP required by Monday, February 21st to Elizabeth Nosek, Senior Curator at (808) 447-3926 or by email to enosek@missionhouses.org.
