2011 Senate Bill SB120 (Relating to state funds)

Current Referral:  WAM

Introducer(s): SOLOMON, Hee, Kahele, Ryan

Repeal of Special Funds Bill – to Use Dormant Funds or Turn Users' Fees into New Taxes?

A multitude of special funds (see list below) are slated to be on the chopping block with the introduction yesterday of Hawaii Senate Bill SB120, to repeal certain special funds and transfer balances to the state general fund. The question arises, if a special fund is repealed, and the fund is paid for by users’ fees, does the user fee get reduced or does it stay the same and essentially that extra money becomes a tax to go into the general fund? The bill does not address this issue.

Hawaii Votes gives users instant access to concise, plain language and objective descriptions of bills, substantive amendments, and votes that take place in the Hawaii Legislature. Unlike any other bill tracking utility, Hawaii Votes is unique because all legislative actions are described - not just those selected by a particular interest group. It is searchable by legislator, keyword, and 50 subject categories, so users can create their own custom "voting record guide."
