Statement on Call for Premature Release of Funds

from www.AionaFinnegan.com

HONOLULU - Travis Taylor, communications director for the Aiona-Finnegan Campaign, today issued the following statement regarding our opponents' call to prematurely release more than $23 million from the Emergency and Budget Reserve Fund.

"Duke and Lynn will take a fresh look at all appropriated funds within the context of the Council on Revenues next revenues forecast in December to ensure the state spends within its means.

"The Council on Revenues lowered its revenues projections for this fiscal year at its last meeting in September, which highlights the need for Hawai‘i's next Governor to prudently manage the state's finances amid this period of economic uncertainty.

"If the next Governor is going to be a rubber stamp for the State Legislature, as the case would be with our opponents, Hawai‘i would be operating in the red like they do in Washington.

"Our opponent is making blind promises, which is simply irresponsible. Duke and Lynn, on the other hand, will seriously consider the release of funds and do what's in the best interests of all the people of Hawai‘i."
