KOS: The perception of Occupy Honolulu is Universally Negative

Excerpts from Daily KOS, “Occupy Honolulu Failed. Let's Talk About Why”

by ‘Nulwee’ December 8, 2011

First off, the name itself is a problem… "Occupy"....

The occupiers were flown in from the mainland. This is the perception that everyone in Honolulu has, and that's about the worst one it can get. Carpet bagging here is, after all, still an ongoing form of economic theft. It's not hard to tell if someone's from the islands or from the mainland, so at this point, it's really not worth contesting.

Currently, Occupy Honolulu takes up a small corner of Thomas Square Park, about a mile or so east of downtown. It's an encampment with tents and signs and not much else. In fact, I'd bet a lot or even most people driving by don't notice it, because it looks exactly like the homeless camps in all the other parks.

There was a time when Occupy Honolulu was taking off, and events were held at the North Shore and Ala Moana Beach Park. That was 3 months ago.

The movement has effectively died….

Divorce it from the Thomas Square occupiers. The perception of them is universally negative. They are now poisonous, an anti-Midas.
