Djou: America Must Build Coherent Strategy to Deal With Islamic State

News Release from Djou Campaign

Former Congressman Charles K. Djou released a statement reacting to President Obama's remark yesterday that his administration lacks a strategy for dealing with the Islamic State, also known as ISIS.

"The rise of radical Islam is the most immediate threat to our country's national security.  The violent and expanding ISIS terrorist organization threatens America's vital interests and demands action," stated Djou.  "As a combat veteran I do not want to send any American service members into harm's way.  But I would much rather confront terrorists like ISIS overseas than here at home.  I support President Obama's desire to defeat ISIS, but America needs to see more decisive leadership from the administration.  I do not support inserting ground troops to tackle this unfolding crisis, but I do support an air campaign coupled with an aggressive intelligence gathering system and a strong diplomatic response, similar to what the US did with Operation Deny Flight in Bosnia and Operation Southern Watch in Iraq, to confront ISIS."

Congressman Djou believes that radical Islamic terror is the greatest near-term threat to America's national security.  In contrast, during a live KITV debate last month, Djou's opponent stated that the American government's use of electronic surveillance is the greatest threat to American national security.

Djou represented Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District from 2010 to 2011 and served on the House Armed Services Committee.  Djou also completed a tour of duty with the U.S. Army's 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Infantry Division in Kandahar, Afghanistan where he was awarded the Army combat action badge.
