Mayor Caldwell to hold affordable housing town hall meetings

Three meetings to be held to discuss Islandwide Housing Strategy

News Release from Office of the Mayor October 20, 2014

HONOLULU – Mayor Kirk Caldwell today announced that he will be holding town hall meetings to discuss his Islandwide Housing Strategy to address the need for affordable housing on O‘ahu.

The first meeting will be held in town on Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Hawaii Suites 7 & 8. Additional meetings will be announced soon.

Mayor Caldwell will be joined by Transit-Oriented Development Administrator Harrison Rue and Office of Housing Director Jun Yang to discuss the city’s aggressive new affordable housing plan.

Mayor Caldwell has visited communities around the island since taking office.  Earlier this year, he held town hall meetings in Mililani, Waikiki, Waimanalo, Ewa and Nanakuli.  Last year, he held town hall meetings in the following locations: Downtown, Hawaii Kai, Kahuku, Kaimuki, Kalihi, Kaneohe, Kapolei, Wahiawa, Waialua, and Waianae.

Thursday’s town hall meeting will be broadcast live on ‘Ôlelo channel 54. The public is encouraged to attend, participate, and make suggestions on how the Caldwell Administration can better serve the housing needs of O‘ahu residents.
