City to present draft Hālawa Area TOD Plan

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, November 14, 2016

The Department of Planning and Permitting will hold a third community meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 16, to present the Public Review Draft of the Hālawa Area Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan, which plans for the area around the future Aloha Stadium rail station.

The workshop is set for 6-8 p.m. in the Aloha Stadium Hospitality Room. Light refreshments will be provided. Parking for the workshop is free and entry is through Gate 1 from Salt Lake Boulevard. Workshop participants should proceed to the security desk to the right of the ticket office for directions to the Hospitality Room.

The Public Review Draft is the result of two earlier community workshops, as well as a market analysis, resident survey, and assessment of existing conditions. The plan was developed in coordination with state agencies that are studying options for stadium reconstruction or building a new stadium on the site, along with associated mixed-use development. The draft Plan explores the potential for new development, roadway and pedestrian infrastructure upgrades, and improved connections to surrounding neighborhoods and visitor attractions.

“The area around Aloha Stadium holds great potential for redevelopment as a new mixed-use neighborhood where people can hang out, eat and shop before and after games and events,” said Harrison Rue, Community Building and TOD administrator. “There are also opportunities to better connect surrounding neighborhoods to the rail station and the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail, and connect visitors to nearby historic destinations.”

A final plan will be submitted to the Planning Commission and then City Council for review and approval next year. For a copy of the draft plan, visit
