WHY IS US FEDERAL RECOGNITION SHOWING UP AGAIN NOW?
from FreeHawaiiTV.com
HONOLULU, HAWAI`I - This week‘s Free Hawai`i TV first airing this Wednesday, October 15th, 2025 online at FreeHawaiiTV.com answers a question being asked by many - why is US federal recognition, long dormant for many years and though to be a dead issue in Hawai`i, being discussed right now?
“At the recent Hawaiian Council convention held in Washington state the Office Of Hawaiian Affairs held a side event that promoted US federal recognition for native Hawaiians. Like in years past, OHA once again has now shamefully let everyone know that it still backs Fed Wreck as a solution for Hawaiians, says Free Hawai`i TV host `Ehu Kekahu Cardwell.”
“Why is it being brought up now? Because of the recent threat to sue Kamehameha Schools in US courts over their admissions policy. OHA is falsely claiming that US federal recognition would protect Kamehameha Schools from lawsuits such as this in the future.”
“Not only would turning Hawaiians into a US tribe not solve the Kamehameha schools admissions threat, it would entrap Hawaiians into becoming wards of the US federal government for the rest of their lives and their children‘s lives.”
“The vast majority of Hawaiians are just as clear today as in the past that Fed Wreck is not a solution, but rather a path to enslavement for all kanaka maoli or Hawaiians. US federal recognition sits on the ash heap of failed answers. Again we say shame on OHA for misleading those whose lives they are supposed to improve,” states Cardwell.
