Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – The Hawaiʻi State Senate and the Hawai‘i House of Representatives will convene in regular session on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, marking the second year of the 33rd Legislature.

WHO:             Hawai‘i State Legislature

WHAT:          The Hawai‘i State Senate and the Hawai‘i House of Representatives will convene their 2026 session.

WHEN:          Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE:       House Chamber, Senate Chamber | Hawai‘i State Capitol

Parking

We expect a large crowd for Opening Day and encourage motorists to carpool or use public transportation. There will be no public parking available at the State Capitol. Suggested alternatives for parking include nearby public lots including the State Department of Health, Kalanimōkū Building Parking Lot, and ʻIolani Palace. Metered parking is available along King St. and Richards St. Additionally, several private lots in the area may also have available parking spots. Attendees are also encouraged to utilize public transportation or rideshare services.

Public Attendance

The public is welcome to attend the opening floor sessions; however, seating is limited. Access to the House and Senate Chamber galleries will be through the Capitol Rotunda and open to the public at 9:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

Capitol Security Measures

The State Capitol has implemented updated security measures. Additional security will assist with screening and building security on Opening Day. All visitors entering the Capitol are required to present a photo ID and go through metal detection screening from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. All visitors may enter the State Capitol through three entry points: Two at street level (elevator Cores 1 and 3) which are located at the Diamond Head makai and ʻEwa mauka corners of the State Capitol Rotunda, and through the main basement entrance.  All visitors to the Capitol shall go through metal detection screening through these three entry points.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive earlier to allow extra time to go through the security checkpoints. Bags will be subject to search, so limit what you bring or avoid bringing a bag altogether. Please anticipate delays, bring your ID, and if possible, use stairwells instead of elevators for quicker access.
